|First Bank - Montgomery Street Branch - San Francisco, CA|
This project is a 3,500 square foot interior renovation of existing ground-level retail space in the heart of San Francisco’s financial district, two blocks from the Transamerica Tower. The bank leases most of the main floor, and the building is architecturally significant inasmuch as it was once a two-story, Beaux-Arts structure, but a modern high-rise tower was built overhead.
Our client requested we incorporate as many aspects as possible of their prototype retail branch bank into this design. The principle of the prototype branch is to expose customers to marketing, promotional, and self-service features on their route from the main entrance to teller stations. Consequently, this relatively open plan has a coin counter, internet banking kiosks, media center and coffee bar strategically placed between the classically-detailed entry doors and two main teller pods. Defining this important customer path is a suspended banner that outlines the long history of this family-owned institution.
The Bank acquired a small collection of paintings and prints during their tenure in another historic structure on Montgomery Street, and part of our design services on this project included assisting the Owners in displaying selected pieces in this newly-remodeled space.
